Tip of the day - How to hold your makeup brushes!

Hey everyone!

Here's a quick tip of the day regarding makeup brushes and the way we hold them.

When using makeup brushes, hold the brush handle in the centre. The closer you get to the bristles, the more pressure you apply onto the brush head. When holding the brush from the centre, you get a more even and flawless finish.

This post is a boring (but essential) one, but I'll post a few pictures of Mr. Buggles to spice things up ;)

How NOT to use your makeup brushes!

He's clearly having the time of his life.

To any makeup junkies out there from the UK - NAKED 2 is now for sale!!

Hey everyone!

This is just a quick announcement to all eyeshadow junkies from the UK and Ireland: the Urban Decay Naked palette 2 is now for sale online at Debenhams!

Selling at £36, the Naked 2 palette comes with 12 shades of matte and shimmery colours, and blending eyeshadow brush and a mini lipgloss.

Link to the naked 2 palette:

Although this will probably sell out soon and will be on Ebay for triple the price in a few days, I already have the first edition of the Naked Palette, and after seeing swatches and comparisons of the new edition against  the old edition, they just look too similar for me to fork out another £36.

If I didn't own any of the naked palette editions however, and was looking for a set of good quality, neutral coloured eyeshadows then this would be the perfect choice. If you want it, quit contemplating before they all sell out!

Thanks for reading!!

Chocolate Brown Smokey Eye!

Hey everyone, how are you all doing?

You might think I know a lot about makeup application but, here are two shocking pieces of information about me:

  1. I've never done a black smokey eye before. In fact, the first smokey eye I had ever done was when my sister gave me an eyeshadow by Nars called Galapogas. It was so beautiful that i decided 'why not'? and I absolutely loved the result. Here's the post in case you haven't seen it before: . Smokey eyes always seemed to difficult to me and i always had the fear that my eyes would look punched. But in actual fact it's probably the most easiest and quickest look anyone can pull off.
  2. I can't line my eyes properly with eye-liner. I used to use a liquid eye-liner and found it easy but since that's run out, I've been trying to line my eyes with gel liner and it's been an epic fail. It takes me AGES to do a simple line. I recently tried liquid eye-liner again and it was disastrous!
So there you have it, I guess I can classify these are New Years Resolutions. Practise makes perfect so I'm sure I'll get there in the end!
I have been practising quite a few smokey eyes using browns as i think browns compliment my skin tone well. In particular warm toned browns really work with my skin. A  mac eyeshadow which I think works amazing with my skin tone is mac's texture - a soft warm toned brown. I use this whenever I want to blend a smokey eye out perfectly.

OK, I'm quitting the ramble now: here are some pictures of a chocolate brown smokey eye!

Products used:

  • MAC's fluidline black track gel liner used as an eyeshadow base
  • Urban Decay Naked Palette:"half baked" on the inner corner of the lid, then "smog" on the first 1/3 of the lid. "dark horse" on the remainder of the lid, blended out with mac's eyeshadow in 'texture'.
  • Clinique High Lengths mascara
  • MAC kohl in smoulder
  • MAC Face + Body in C5
  • Nars blush in 'Gina'
  • Sleek lipstick in 'Barely There'

Best Celebrity Makeup of 2011

 Happy New Year everyone!

2011 has really flown by, and I'm still in shock that we're now in 2012. They say that time goes faster as you grow older, and I really do believe that it does! I still can't believe I'm in my final year at uni!
2011 was a great year for me. In general I would say the highlight of my year was the summertime. To begin with, my trip to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Florida back in June this year was mind blowing. I really, really enjoyed myself and loved living in an apartment in Beverly Hills for a week- I mean c'mon my postcode was 90210!!

In July my friends and I decided to climb Mount Snowdon in Wales. Although this isn't exactly Mount Kilimanjaro, it's still pretty challenging and it was a fantastic experience. The view is spectacular and you really feel accomplished once you reach the peak.

In September, I went on to an adventure to the famous Lake District in Cumbria, England and saw some beautiful views, and did cool activities such as indoor wall climbing and quad biking.
In general I've had a pleasant 2011 as I've managed to catch up with family and friends, and I even made a new best friend too :))
Finally, I'm honestly so glad that I've started my own blog this year. I find it so therapeutic to write about my hobbies and create makeup looks, and every comment or page view that I receive genuinely makes my day.

Enough about me - let's talk about my 5 top celebrity makeup looks of 2011!

  • Kelly Rowland. Kelly's makeup in the X factor was stunning. I need to know who her makeup artist is!

  • Mila Kunis. After her appearances in 'Black Swan' and 'Friends with Benefits', everyone including me was in LOVE with Mila and the way she carries herself! Her makeup is simple but very beautiful

  • Selena Gomez. I admit it, I don't really know who Selena is, and I haven't heard any of her songs but there was a lot of hype this year surrounding her makeup looks in her music video "Love You Like A Love Song". So when I googled the screen-shots, I could see why. Bold lips, winged eye-liner. Smokey purple eye with coral lips. These really are a beautiful combination on her olive complexion.

  • Kourtney Kardashian. Some people may be thinking "why not Kim?!", but for me I feel like Kourtney was more adventerous and daring with her looks, which I find really inspiring. Here are some pictures of Kourtney's makeup in 2011:

Psst! Wanna know what lipstick Kourtney is wearing in the above picture? Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture in #13: Le Orange

  • Katy Perry. Katy not only shocked and impressed us with her daring coloured hair, but her makeup also played a part in her extrovert appearance.

Which celebrity do you think wore the best makeup in 2011? Let me know in the comments box!

Happy New Year again! Thank you so much for checking out my blog!
