Evening Brown Smokey eye!

Hey everyone!

I did a Smokey eye using a brown eyeshadow  by Nars called Galapogas. I've mentioned this shadow in a previous post, and I love it! It’s a beautiful warm toned brown with small gold shimmers. I added a bit of Urban Decay’s Baked on the inner corners of my lid. I used my MAC gel liner as a base before I applied the eyeshadow to add intensity. I also added huge lashes! This look is so simple to do, and takes literally minutes!

Dramatic Eyeliner Halloween Look!

Hey girls!

I couldn’t sleep until 4am last night and ended up playing around with my makeup. I started off with a dramatic but wearable cat eyeliner flick, but I got ever so slightly carried away and ended up looking like a Maleficent from sleeping beauty! Haha I always tend to go overboard sometimes, especially when I have nothing to do! I wish I did this look earlier because I really needed cotton buds to clean up the look...unfortunately they were in my parents room so I didn’t want to wake them up. But I did what I could, and I had a lot of fun!
I eventually added gold on top (really sloppy though!) and I quite like the effect too! Let me know what you think!
Products used:
 MAC  fluidline in ‘Black Track’
MAC kohl in ‘Smoulder’

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Carnival makeup!

Hey guys! I did some WACKY makeup inspired by the beautiful costumes worn in carnivals. I've never really done anything this loud before so it was pretty challenging, but I like how it turned out! I used my 120 palette from 'manly' (WHY is it called manly?! Haha) but it has a ton of bright colourful shadows. My sister purchased it from EBay years ago when it was £10, but you can purchase it for about £15 now, which is still really cheap for 120 eyeshadows! I also used a MAC eyeshadows called 'belle azure', and a Gosh trio of eyeshadows.
A picture of the mess I made, LOL!

Do you like to experiment with bright colours too? Let me know what you think!!

Thanks for reading!!

Makeup Tip of the day - Starbucks napkins and toilet seat covers.

Starbucks napkins are perfect, I repeat PERFECT for blotting your skin without removing makeup!
If you ever have oily skin then you would understand about how shiny your skin can look at times, especially when you're on the go. A lot of companies sell blotting sheets that absorb this excess oil without removing makeup.
Starbucks - accidentally - is one of them, and their napkins are awesome!

If you don’t believe me, check out the whopping 87 reviews here:

Since the napkin is quite large, I would suggest cutting them into smaller pieces, and putting them your handbag for convenience :)
So next time you go to Starbucks, remember to grab some tissues and see for yourself!

Alternatively, another awesome oil blotter would be toilet seat covers, which you can buy from supermarkets such as Tesco. If you think I'm insane, even celebrity makeup artists use it!

"It sounds crazy but toilet seat covers make perfect blotting papers. The thin tissue absorbs, oil like a sponge."- Bruce Graysont

So there you have it, a little bit of trial and error goes a long way!

Mac Naked Pigment + Nars Galapogas

Hey everyone! I did a look based on the two new eyeshadows that I recently have. One is by Nars and it is called 'Galapagos' it is an absolutely beautiful chocolate brown colour with finely milled gold shimmers. I've wanted this for AGES and I’m so glad that I finally have my hands on it!

The other shadow is a pigment from MAC and is called naked. If you guys haven’t noticed already, I love neutral colours and eyeshadows so I was so happy to get this pigment!

Since I was just practising and wasn’t actually going out anywhere with this makeup, I decided to try out two different of methods of application:

  1. One on eye, I decided to do the classic ‘outer V shape and I used Nars Galapagos on the crease.
  2. On the other eye I defined my crease using the same shadow, but didn't create a V shape. I just traced out the shape of my eye crease without bringing the shadow down.
This is all too confusing to describe, here are some pics to compare. But first I need to warn you my eyebrows are currently going through 'rehab', I'm trying to grow them as much as possible so they are looking rather hideous. O.o

Here there is no "V" shape created with the darker shadow.

     no V shape, eyes open

In the picture below, using  the darker shadow I have traced out a sideways V shape. Hopefully you can see the difference between the two.
    v shape, eyes open

    v shape, eyes closed

As a personal preference I think the classic 'V' shape eye is a bit too drastic and doesn't really suit my eye shape.

General pictures of the entire look:

I was feeling bored afterwards, and turned it into a double winged liner instead. I quite like the effect! with an eye-liner brush and some gel liner, I traced out a black line under my eyes and extended it. using a white eye-liner pencil, I filled in this space. then using Urban Decay's loose pigment in 'Shag' (LOL) I filled this area in.

    Products used:
Eyeshadow: Nars in 'Galapogas', Mac pigment 'Naked'
Eye-liner: Mac gel liner in 'Blacktrack', Mac kohl pencil in 'Smoulder'
    Lipstick: Sleek 'Barely There'
    Eldora eyelashes
    Urban Decay Primer Potion

Thank you so much for checking out my blog! xx

    The Power of Makeup

How awesome is this picture! It really illustrates the effectiveness of makeup (and circle lenses too I think!) This image is taken from a Japanese show. I thought this was cool so I decided to share, he he

    New trend: Magnetic nail varnish

Hey! this post goes out to all the nail varnish addicts out there! :) haha

If you're into nail varnish with patterns and thoroughly enjoyed the nail effects craze earlier on this year, then you're bound to be excited about magnetic nail varnish! The process goes as follows:
You paint a thick layer of nail polish and then hold a magnet over your nail for a few seconds, which then reacts with the varnish and creates a beautiful effect. Some of pictures i found on the web were amazing, make sure you google 'magnetic nail varnish' and see for yourself!

As far as I know, the  brands of Lancôme and LCN have released these polishes so far, but a cheaper alternative which is yet to hit the market is from the brand  '17' which is available from Boots . They are for sale on the 21st September in selected Boots stores.

Are you excited too? I can't wait!

    My MAC purchases!

Hey guys! Today I had a HUGE package delivered to my door full of stuff from MAC!! Wooohooo!! It was just like Christmas day, LOL.
Here are some pictures of the products I purchased:

    left to right:
MAC pigment in 'Naked', MAC brush cleanser
    MAC eye pencil in 'Smoulder'
MAC creemsheen lipstick in 'Vegas Volt', MAC gel liner in 'Blacktrack'
    MAC 217 brush
    MAC 224 brush
    MAC 266 brush

MAC 266 - This is supposed to be an awesome angled eyeliner brush. It can be used to line the eyes with either a gel liner, or an eyeshadow.

Mac 244- This brush is supposed to blend eyeshadows beautifully. Can't wait to use this!
Mac 217- Another blending brush with a HUGE reptuation for being amazing!!
Mac gel liner in black track :)

Mac lipstick in 'Vegas Volt'. Oops this is so bright o.O

I can’t wait to use these all and I’ll definitely let you all know how I get along with them.
This is slightly irrelevant because it’s my mum’s purchase NOT mine but I took a couple of snaps anyway, hehe. She got some candles from the brand ‘Jo Malone’ which is apparently a celebrity favourite brand! J LO loves their candles apparently!  The packaging is so gorgeous; I had to show you all! She also got a face cream by Crème De La Mer.

Retail therapy always puts me in a happier state of mind :) . And to finish off:

    ayeshadows, eyeshadows!

    Hey everyone!

I’ve decided to change the name of my blog to ‘ayeshadows.blogspot.com’, as in ‘eye shadows’. So, err yeah I think that’s a bit better than choc chip lips! Haha! I found the other blog title a little confusing sometimes so this one is better J

Thanks for taking the time out to view my blog!!!

    Makeup for glasses!

Hey! Here are some pictures of the makeup look I sometimes do when I wear my spectacles. :)  I wear my glasses quite occasionally, but normally when I go out with friends I’ll be wearing my contact lens as I feel like a nerd. But today my eyes were feeling sensitive so I decided to refrain from wearing contacts.

I had quite an urge to do something creative on the bottom of my eye because  if I do something on the top, my glasses frame will hide it anyway.
So, using Sleek’s eyeliner kajal in purple, and some cheap unbranded greenish blue colour eye pencil, I did a kind of ombre effect thing. I lined the greenish blue colour on the bottom of the first half of the lead and then carried continued the eyeliner with Sleek’ purple eyeliner pencil. Then just to set the eyeliner so that it doesn’t smudge, and to add intensity, I smudged some eye shadows in similar shades on top.
I couldn’t use any mascara because it hits my lens when I wear glasses, LOL!
Finally I just added some dark gold eye-shadow onto my lids and a darker brown colour onto the outer corners of my eyes. The eye shadow colours that i used were from a brand called Stila.

    Foundation: Inglot mousse foundation
Concealer: Mac studio fix concealer, NC35
Eye shadow: Stila and Urban Decay Book of Shadows
Purple eyeliner: Sleek Kajal in purple
    Lips: Sleek “barely there”
    Blush: Sleek “flamingo”
    Brows: Elf studio brow kit

Without glasses and with flash (such an awkward position but it shows my makeup well!)

     With flash, without specs :)

No flash, natural (bathroom) lighting and specs!

Thank you for checking out my blog!!!
    much love! xxx

    My essential makeup!

    Hey everyone!

Hope you're enjoying the week so far. I've actually been away from home for a few days, and thought I would do a post on what products i took along with me. I guess you could call them my beauty essentials.

I only carried a few simple items with me, products that weren’t too heavy as I had an interview lined up. I only needed a few products as I didn't want to give the impression that I had a full face of makeup J

MAC Mattene lipstick in "40's Pink". I love this lipstick, its long lasting without being drying to the lips and looks good with tanned skin. I think it's limited edition though!
Sally Hansen 'Lip Inflation' plumping lipgloss in pink, Eyeko Limited edition gloss in"Portobello Road". Two great glosses that compliment most lip shades!
Sleek lipstick in 'Barely There'. I wear this all the time, and use a bit of Carmex lip-balm to moisturise my lips first!
MAC cremesheen lipstick in "Ever Hip". LOVE LOVE LOVE this lipstick! it is the perfect coral shade that looks great on any skin tone! It is also very moisturising.Limited edition.

Nars lipstick in 'Roman Holiday'. This lipstick is sheer, almost like a tinted lip balm. It is very moisturising and gives a slight flush of colour to the lips. Personally I would prefer it to be more pigmented and less creamy as it tends to wear off easily.

There's a picture of everything I took along with me. Quite a few products I know, but it’s better to be safe than to be sorry! ;)

Left to right (I won’t include the lipsticks that I mentioned before)
    1. Carmex lip-balm, Mac Studio Finish concealer in NC35, Sleek blusher in 'Rose Gold', Sleek blusher in 'Flamingo"
    2. Scott Barnes cream highlighter, Real techniques contour brush, ELF studio mineral mascara,
    3. Bobby Brown corrector in "Peach", Rimmel "Exaggerate" liquid eye-liner in black

For my interview I ended up using the matte pink blush from Sleek "Flamingo", a bright gorgeous fuchsia pink blusher. A little goes a long way so I used small amounts and gradually built up the colour. I was short of time but managed to slap some of the beautiful lipstick by MAC called Ever Hip.

Thanks for checking out my blog!

    It's like Gold Dust!

    Hiya!

Here are some pictures of the make-up I did on myself yesterday, as I was going to my friend's leaving party. I used a loose pigment from Urban Decay called 'X' all over my eyelids, and on the outer corner I used a matte dark brown colour from sleek's contour kit.
The matte brown colour is supposed to be used as a bronzer or to contour,  but I thought it was perfect colour to blend with gold!

This is my facial expression, after I realised that there was going to be a bouncy castle at the party.

    • Eyes: Urban Decay "X" loose pigment, Sleek contour kit in  medium, Rimmel "Exaggerate" eyeliner in black, Urban Decay eyeliner pencil in "Zero", Clinque high lengths mascara
    • Face:  Nars Sheerglow foundation in "Barcelona"
    • Cheeks: Nars blush in "Gina"
    • Lips: Rimmel moisture renew lipstick in "Nude Delight" and MAC lipliner in "Life's a Breeze"

    Sleek Shimmery Blushers review

Hey all! I thought I would do a review on Sleek's shimmery blushers because I think they deserve a whole post about them. I also own Sleek's matte shades and will do a separate post on that some other time soon.
The three shades that I own are called: Rose Gold, Pomegranate, and Sunrise.

Anyone who’s into blushers will know that a particular blusher by Nars called Orgasm (yes...that’s what it’s calledK) is supposed to be one of the greatest blushers ever. Nars orgasm is a beautiful flushed pink and coral colour mixed with finely milled gold shimmer. It looks beautiful with all skin tones especially on light to medium skin; you can't go wrong with it. But you CAN go wrong if you're on a budget! It retails for £20.50!

Sleek's blusher in Rose Gold is quite similar to Nars' best selling product. And I would recommend it to anyone. If you are afraid that you'll look like a glitter-ball due the shimmer, this isn’t the case because the shimmer is so fine, that you won't see chunks of glitter on your face. Its gives an instant glow and looks perfect on every skin tone. The only difference I can tell between nars orgasm and sleek rose gold is that Sleek’s blusher has more gold flecks in than pink, and nars has more pink than gold. Here's a comparison:
*the awkward moment when I can't rotate the image* :/
     Top: Nars orgasm
    bottom: Sleek rose gold

The next blusher I have by Sleek is in pomegranate, and is a deeper pink compared to rose gold. It also contains glitter but again, is extremely finely milled. I think this colour is less versatile on all lighter skin tones, but women of darker colour would definitely suit this shade! It is also much pigmented so a little goes a long way.

The last blusher is called sunrise. Again, this blusher has gold flecks in it, and is quite dark so again this colour if perfect for darker women. It is a beautiful colour but I feel like I always accidentally add too much when applying since it is quite dark! I would recommend this to women that are NC or NW 40 and above. It is such a beautiful blusher!

Swatches left to right: sunrise, pomegranate and rose gold.

Sleek blushers retail for £4.30 and sleek is sold in most Superdrug stores. Remember, if you own a NUS extra card you're eligible to get 10% off!

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend :) thanks for reading!! xx
